Why Water Baptism ? page 1

By Pastor Jim Brenay

Recently I overheard a conversation in which the parties were discussing water baptism, To my utter dismay, I heard the one tell the other that water baptism was not even necessary for salvation. After hearing this statement, I begin studying the subject, of water baptism, now I would like to share with you the results of that study.

Jesus said in Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3:5 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. He also said in the third verse, John 3:3 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Many clergy today are trying to point the way to heaven, when they themselves can not even see the way, without first coming by the way of water and spirit.

The new birth is a process, Peter said in Acts 2:38 Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

You may ask, on what authority did Peter say this? You may recall that Jesus told Peter, in Matthew 16:19 I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: Peter, on the day of Pentecost, was announcing the Keys to entering into the Kingdom.

It takes water and Spirit for the new birth, Jesus said in John|3:5 Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Romans 8:11 say’s if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

It is entirely possible that the very ones that are telling you to just take it by faith, are not even saved themselves. All to often we rely on so called clergy to lead us to salvation, when they themselves are just blind leaders of the blind. Unless they are born of the water and the Spirit, they cannot even see the kingdom of God.

John 3:3 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Jesus is our elder brother. He is the first born from the dead. We are risen in His likeness when we are buried with Him in the likeness of His death. That alone should make us want to jump at the chance to be baptized.

Romans 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

Romans|6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the Glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Romans|6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

Romans|6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

Romans|6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.

Romans|6:8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him.
